Concord University has announced that it will be showcasing the work of visual artist Jaci Rice at the university’s Arthur Butcher Gallery through early March.
Working primarily with acrylics on wood panel, Rice uses her art as a means of amplifying and emphasizing the profundity of general world in which we live. Through her painting, she displays a remarkable gift for detecting and giving life to the beauty inherent in what at first glance could be dismissed as simply mundane.
“Worrying that visual moments will slip away or be clouded over and forgotten, I try to capture the likenesses as quickly as possible which can lead to agitated strokes and mashed about shapes of dark and light,” says the artist of her own process.
“The composition, the way your eye travels through the piece, is worked out mostly ahead of time with reference photos and sketches, but can also happen during the ‘building’ of the work, line upon line, layer upon layer.”
The announcement of the showcase came on Wednesday morning via a statement from Concord.
”The Arthur Butcher Gallery at Concord University is delighted to showcase the work of Jaci Rice, on display through March 6, [2025,]” wrote the Athens, WV institution in an announcement.
“With a unique ability to capture the fleeting beauty of everyday life, her art transforms these moments into vibrant, layered compositions full of energy and emotion.”
As part of the art showcase, a reception and lecture event will be held at the university’s famously scenic campus. The reception and lecture event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 6:00pm. Demonstrations are scheduled to be held throughout the day on Thursday, March 6, 2025, bringing the showcase to a conclusion.
