The Kansas City Chiefs will meet the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills (32-29) on Sunday night to become the AFC Champions for the third season in a row.

The Chiefs are now the first team in NFL history to reach five Super Bowls in six seasons. This will also be their third consecutive appearance in the Super Bowl. They now have a chance to make history by being the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowl titles.

All of this can be attributed to Chiefs’ head coach, Andy Reid. He is the winningest coach in Kansas City history and has secured the fourth most wins of all time in the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs, is no stranger to Super Bowl appearances. Since becoming the starting quarterback in 2018, he has helped lead the Chiefs to four (now five) Super Bowls and has won three out of the last four. He is seeking his fourth championship ring and the chance to be a part of history by being the first to win three straight titles. Star tight end, Travis Kelce, has been with the Chiefs for twelve years and is also pursuing his fourth ring and 3-peat.

On Sunday, Jaylen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Washington Commanders (55-23) to become the NFC Champions.

The Eagles last played in the Super Bowl in 2023, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. This will be the Eagles’ fifth visit to the Super Bowl, though they have only won one Super Bowl (2018) in franchise history.

Nick Sirianni, the Eagles’ head coach, has the best winning percentage of any coach in franchise history. Since becoming the head coach in 2021, he has led the Eagles to the playoffs all four seasons, including their Super Bowl loss against the Chiefs in 2023. This will be his second Super Bowl appearance in just four years.

This will also be quarterback Jaylen Hurts’ second Super Bowl appearance, also losing to the Chiefs in 2023. This year, the Eagles signed star running back, Saquon Barkley. Barkley had a record season, breaking the Eagles’ franchise record for most rushing yards in a season and nearly breaking the NFL record for most yards in a single season. It will be his first Super Bowl appearance. It will be his first Super Bowl appearance, and coincidentally, he will celebrate his 28th birthday on the same day as Super Bowl LIX.

Super Bowl LIX is primed to be a rematch of the ages. Can Patrick Mahomes and the championship pedigree of the Chiefs beat Jalen Hurts and the Eagles again or will the Eagles finally get their revenge?

Aside from the actual game, singer/songwriter Jon Batiste will be performing the National Anthem. Hip-hop icon Kendrick Lamar will be headlining the Apple Music Halftime Show with special guest, SZA. Even the commercials are always special and more than just advertisements, sparking conversations even after the big game is over.

Super Bowl LIX is officially less than two weeks away, scheduled to air on Sunday, February 9th at 6:30 ET on FOX. Which team do you have winning Super Bowl LIX?

Putting it on Wax

I think I speak for the majority when I say that I’m tired of seeing the Chiefs go to and win the Super Bowl. I desperately wanted to see Josh Allen and the Bills finally defeat the Chiefs in the AFC championship and make it to the Super Bowl. I mean come on, the Bills have never won a Super Bowl and Josh Allen is so incredibly talented, the guy deserves a ring.

I will admit, if the Chiefs can pull it off, it would be cool to witness them make history by being the first-ever team to win three consecutive championships. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Patrick Mahomes add another ring to his collection, getting closer and closer to catching up with Tom Brady. I recognize their greatness. At the same time though, it would be nice to see someone else get to celebrate. I think that the Eagles come to play with a chip on their shoulder and they leave with the chip. Go Birds!
