The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble released their latest single “Las Olas” in recent weeks as part of the rollout for their upcoming album, Gemini, set to be released next month through Colemine Records. The band followed up the release with a brand new music video for the single on Wednesday.
Set at the group’s “The Kitchen II” recording studio in San Diego, the accompanying clip for “Las Olas” captures The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble performing the breezy new track.
Described as, “a laid back, summertime journey along the SoCal coast at sunset [that] cruises along the highway in SFSE’s signature funky soul-jazz style,” “Las Olas” is indicative of the soulful, genre-blending approach characteristic of the group’s distinctive output.
Crisp drums and warm instrumentation are compounded by, “a passionate, highly lyrical solo” by Sure Fire Soul Ensemble guitarist Aquiles “Lito” Magana that brings a particular emotional resonance to the tune.
The San Diego-based unit will be releasing its upcoming LP Gemini on March 28, 2025. The album will follow the group’s exceptional 2022 studio effort Step Down, and the 2023 live-performance record Live at Panama 66.
Additional details and analysis on “Las Olas” can be found through recent coverage from Digital Wax for the tune, which was featured as part of Digital Wax’s FRESH WAX coverage of new releases from the mid-January period.
The Colemine Records outfit as a whole has remained incredibly busy since the outset of the new year, bringing a variety of exciting new releases to the public featuring the label’s signature soul-infused sound. Among such releases have been the latest singles from Ohio-based jazz trio Okonski, “October” and “Dahlia,” the latter of which hit the airways just Tuesday.
Mysterious beatsmith and soul crooner Pale Jay also had new material hit the streets last week in the form of Low End Love Songs Instrumentals, the all-instrumental companion album to the LP, Low End Love Songs released in late 2024.
The brand new studio performance video for Gemini lead single “Las Olas” is currently available to stream at the Colemine Records YouTube Page. The “Las Olas” single itself is also available to stream on all major platforms, where listeners can also pre-save and pre-order The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble’s upcoming album, Gemini, which will officially hit shelves next month.
