Singer-songwriter M Ross Perkins is returning with a brand new single, “I Don’t Wanna Be So High” per an announcement from Colemine Records on Sunday.

Scheduled for release on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, “I Don’t Wanna Be So High” will be the first new material from the Dayton, Ohio-based musician in almost three years. Further M Ross Perkins-related news is expected to come on the heels of the single release, which follows Perkins’ 2022 full-length album, E Pluribus M Ross, released through Colemine/Karma Chief Records.

E Pluribus Ross features a delightfully vintage aesthetic, with jangly guitars, swirling melodies, and rich vocal harmonies conjuring up a sort of modern-day Beatles sensibility. Indeed, the album feels as though it could have convincingly been slipped into the Fabs’ legendary discography somewhere between Sgt. Pepper’s and The White Album with the casual listener being none the wiser.

There’s something to be said about an artist in the current-day musical landscape being able to leverage the creative wisdom of the past in conjunction with a distinct artistic sensibility fully unique to themselves. As such, the anticipation for songwriter’s full-length follow-up has been high.

M Ross Perkins is an artist unique amongst many of his contemporaries in that the musician has been known to take on the instrumental duties of the album-recording process with little to no outside assistance. This approach mirrors that of many iconic songwriters, with some of the most notable work from the likes of Paul McCartney and Emitt Rhodes immediately coming to mind.

E Pluribus M Ross, in many ways, acted as a fusion of the structure-based songwriting and thoughtful arranging style of writers such as Robbie Robertson, and the more vivid and abstract expressionist musicality of icons like David Bowie and Pink Floyd who would do much to define the musical culture of the 1970s.
