DM3 and The Stems frontman, Dom Mariani has just released a music video for his new, throwback single, “Jangleland.”

Taking time away from the blues-leaning Datura4 ensemble, Mariani is returning to his roots with a tune characterized by a vintage sound which harkens back to the late-1960s and early 1970s heyday of the folk-rock genre.

“I’d written ‘Jangleland’ some time ago and kept revisiting it, playing it at the odd solo show,” says Mariani of the single. “I’d accumulated enough material over the last decade that didn’t fit with Datura4, and I thought it was time to put them all on one album. I’ve been a Byrds fan my whole life, and I’m still in awe of their sound. I was inspired to bring some of that spirit to this tune.”

“Jangleland” offers listeners an early glimpse of a planned eponymous solo album reportedly on the way from Mariani. Though the project sees the frontman momentarily stepping back from the Datura4 project, the influence of the psychedelic-boogie band can be felt in the involvement of Datura4 bassist Joe Grech in the recording of “Jangleland.”

Also featured as contributors to the track are Salv Di Criscito on drums, The Lone Rangers’ Peter Busher on acoustic guitar and backing vox, and Kill Devil Hills and The Floors’ Luke Dux providing pedal steel. Stylistically, “Jangleland” features Mariani’s distinctive West Australian guitar pop aesthetic, and has been characterized as, “a breezy, country-tinged ode to the electric folk rock of the late ’60s and the sun-kissed West Coast vibe of the early ‘70s.”

Recorded in Perth in the Western region of Australia, “Jangleland” is out now through Alive Naturalsound Records and is available to stream and purchase now at the Dom Mariani Bandcamp page.
