English alternative act Sports Team released their latest single, “Maybe When We’re 30” over the weekend. The track, which incorporates new wave and Brit-pop elements, embraces the mundanity of everyday life and has been characterized as a celebration of “coupledom at its most mundane.”

Specifically, “Maybe When We’re 30” reckons with a juncture in the later period of young adulthood at which the priorities and values of various members of one’s social circle begin to shift. Perhaps some individuals are falling into long-term relationships or even marriage, while others are still finding their paths and/or partaking the revelry that so often comes with youth and young manhood.

Such lifestyle contrasts often lead to the development of rifts between former close friends, despite the fact that the parties involved are often unintentional and often not even cognizant of such divides initially. For those still finding their path while things seem to fall into place for others around them, these changes can serve as an impetus for a reassessment of their own situation.

Regarding the content of “Maybe When We’re 30” in particular, lyricist, guitarist, and vocalist says:

“It’s a song for Brooklyn Beckham. When you start  off in a band you feel like Slurms Mackenzie (the Futurama party slug). You can’t  believe it’s your job to travel around the world and drink beer and make music with  your friends.

And then one morning you look around, and all your friends are getting  married, and you think, maybe all I really want is to grow old, and get a dog, and  write horrible things about Brooklyn Beckham on Facebook, and go on cruises, and  have petty disputes with my neighbors about whether the council recycles  cardboard.”

“Maybe When We’re 30” is the latest single to be released from Sports Team’s upcoming full-length album Boys These Days, scheduled for release on May 23rd, 2025, from Distiller Records/Bright Antenna. The record was recorded by the band with producer Matias Tellez – known for his previous work with highly successful acts such as Girl in Red, Gracie Abrams, and CMAT – at Tellez’s Bergen Norwegian recording studio.

”Maybe When We’re 30” is currently available to stream on all major platforms, while Boys These Days is available to pre-save and preorder in various formats and limited-edition issuings including but not limited to picture disc vinyl and signed test pressings.
