Singer and songwriter Kendra Morris is back with a brand new single “In My House”, released on Wednesday through Colemine/Karma Chief Records.

Produced by Morris herself along with Leroi Conroy, “In My House” has been characterized as “a sonic exploration of chaos and catharsis.” Impressively, the track was recorded live by the Brooklyn-based artist in Loveland, Ohio.

Musically, Morris claims to have drawn from a wide variety of influences for the new single, including soul music, 1960s doo wop, and even iconic hip-hop artist and fellow New York native, Busta Rhymes. Lyrically, “In My House” draws parallels between the information by which one’s own mind can become bogged down and a physical mess in one’s home which can bring about its own particular form of mental exasperation.

“It’s an overlap of my messy little New York apartment and the clutter that’s constantly evolving in my own head,” says the singer of the song. “They both can get pretty messy. However, they’re all my own and I get to take a step back, see them for what they are and then clean up and move forward. I can’t really find peace until my messes are cleaned up, but they are necessary to me being the person that I am.”

The track has its origins with Morris’ causal experimentation with a Casio keyboard, and would ultimately be recorded live with vintage amps and guitars and tracked using a Tascam 388. Morris’  vocals for the track are said to have need just a single take for tracking.

The lead single for Kendra Morris’ upcoming full-length album – expected to see release this fall through Karma Chief Records- “In My House” is currently to available to stream everywhere.
