American alternative rock act Shinedown continued its ongoing stream of success at Sunday night’s iHeartRadio Music Awards where the band picked up awards for Rock Artist of the Year and Rock Song of the Year.
The event, which was held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, saw the chart-topping act go home with the Rock Song of the Year for the 2023 single, “A Symptom of Being Human” from the band’s seventh album, Planet Zero. With nearly 125 streams globally, “A Symptom of Being Human” the track has seen significant radio success, having hit Number One at Alternative and at Active, Top 15 at AC, Top 10 at Hot AC, and Top 20 at Top 40.
“The band that we’re in was built by terrestrial radio in the United States and it means the world to us.,” said Shinedown vocalist and songwriter Brent Smith of the band’s newly earned award recognition. “We’ve been a band for two decades and we’re so proud of the last 20 years but it’s also about the next 20 years.”
The founding member went on to express appreciation for the efforts of iHeartRadio in recognizing and promoting the work of artists within the industry, stating,
”iHeart has been the champion for us at terrestrial radio, they’ve always allowed us to be ourselves and have never given us boundaries, we really appreciate this. Thank you to the fans for letting us be ourselves. Thank you so so much!”
Despite the immense success experienced by Shinedown in recent months, the band shows no signs of tapping the brakes, as the group’s latest single, “Dance, Kid, Dance,” made history upon reaching the top spot of the Mediabase Active Rock Chart, becoming the group’s 22nd song to achieve the feat. Shinedown is purportedly the only group in history to achieve 20 number one hits on the chart.
The band is currently gearing up for the upcoming Dance, Kid, Dance Tour, which will kick off Des Moines, Iowa next month ahead of a 36-date run of shows – among the largest touring excursion ever attempted by the band. The Dance, Kid, Dance Tour will bring Shinedown to some of the most country’s most iconic performing venues including the Los Angeles Kia Forum, Madison Square Garden, New Orleans’ Smoothie King, Boston’s TD Garden, and many more.
Shinedown will kick off the Dance, Kid, Dance Tour on April, 25, 2025. Additional information on the Dance, Kid, Dance Tour, including details on opening acts, scheduled performance dates, and more can be found at the official Shinedown website.
