The songwriter that Zach Bryan called “a genius” has come through with two brand new singles, “Using You” and “Green” ahead of his upcoming sophomore album.
Released concurrently on Tuesday, April 2, 2025, “Using You” and “Green” offer respective country-western and pop undertones to give listeners an early taste of Van Cleaf’s full-length LP JVC, scheduled for release next month.
According to the musician himself, “Using You” – the release of which was accompanied by that of a Noah Tidmore and Jack Van Cleaf-directed music video – has its origins in an idea documented by Van Cleaf some time ago.

“I found ‘Using You’ while digging through old voice memos about a year after I had initially wrote it. When I came back to it I thought, ‘hey this is kind of fun,’ and I think it’s maintained that spirit through the recording process, bringing a little sonic levity to the album,” said Jack Van Cleaf of the tune, pointing out the contrast between the light musical tone with the more serious nature of the song’s subject matter.

“Thematically it’s obviously a little heavier, using drug abuse as an extended metaphor for an addition to love and attention, but hopefully it maintains that playful spirit even in those darker moments.”

In addition to the release of two new tracks, Van Cleaf has announced a Spring tour set to kick off on Thursday and continue through May 21, 2025. The trek will bring the songwriter to several major U.S. cities including Nashville, Tennessee, Chicago, Illinois, Austin, Texas, and more.
Tickets are currently available for purchase at the Jack Van Cleaf website, where listeners can also find additional details regarding the 2025 Spring tour.
