Kentucky singer-songwriter S.G. Goodman has announced an album of brand new material, Planting by the Signs, set to be released through the singer’s own Slough Water Records / Thirty Tigers label this summer.
The third album from the artist and her first in three years, Planting by the Signs is preceded by a new single, “Fire Sign,” a tune marked by rock sensibilities, an ear worm chorus, and accompanying music video.
Goodman hit the road to promote 2022’s Teeth Marks and toured relentlessly behind the record, ultimately experiencing a degree of burnout that would make it difficult to discern what “forward” would look like from a creative standpoint. In addition to the general rigors of life on the road, the singer endured personal tragedy on multiple levels during this period, further informing what would become the record Goodman has called her best to date.
”I came off the road questioning my purpose and choices. People are quick to tell you that you are not working hard enough, but slow in telling you that you are working hard enough,” the singer explains. “That seems to be up to you, as well as your ‘why?’. Despite this burnout and other personal setbacks, I found the fire to keep pushing and to make what I believe is my best record yet.”
The eleven-track Planting by the Signs was informed by experiences of love, loss, and reconciliation, bringing a DIY aesthetic to Goodman’s rock-influenced folk-informed songwriting approach to composition.
S.G. Goodman’s new single “Fire Sign” is now streaming and the tune’s parent album, the forthcoming Planting by the Signs, is expected to hit shelves this summer on June 20, 2025, through Slough Water Records / Thirty Tigers.
