Kelly Finnigan of Monophonics is serving up the soul with the new digital single “Keep Me In Mind,” a collaboration with legend of Chicago blues, Renaldo Domino.
The digital track hit streaming platforms earlier this month and originates from Finnigan’s sessions for the A Lover is Born project.
The true origins of the song go back quite a bit further, however, with the first recording of the tune having been cut in 1967 by New York-based musical duo Samson & Delilah for ABC Records. Finnigan’s take on the 60s tune retain the original’s danceable feel, and was recorded exclusively to tape in Ohio, the Bay Area, and of course, Chicago.
The singer’s vocals blend effortlessly with those of the Chicago legend in the modern-day recording, calling back to the classic harmonies of soul collectives throughout the decades and lending yet another layer of authenticity to the throwback number.
Produced by Finnigan himself, “Keep Me In Mind” hit digital streaming services on April 8, 2025, though record collectors will delight in knowing that a 7” vinyl 45 version is set to be released through Colemine Records next month on May 23, 2025.
