Manchester trio GoGo Penguin have treated fans to a new single, “Fallowfield Loops.”
The tune comes alongside an accompanying music video which was directed by bassist Nick Blacka and pianist Chris Illingworth and utilizes imagery depicting the Toast Rack building in Manchester, calling back to the cover of the band’s recently announced forthcoming LP, Necessary Fictions.
”Fallowfield Loops also serves as an introduction to the newest member of GoGo Penguin, drummer Jon Scott, whose approach is impacting the sound of group in an exciting way. The band makes no bones about their creative choices during this new era, with Blacka perhaps putting it best, saying of the new project, “This is what we want to make right now, and it feels authentic.”
This new batch of exploratory numbers finds GoGo Penguin incorporating elements of electronic, jazz, and classical influences, pumping out boundary pushing modular synth-laden soundscapes reflective of the band as they exist at the present time.
As for “Fallowfield Loops,” the eclectic and oftentimes eccentric creativity of the band are not to the detriment of the melodicism and potent dance ability of the brand new single. The punchy track serves as a fitting tribute to the hometown of the Manchester three-piece.
”Fallowfield Loops” and its accompanying video are currently available to stream. Necessary Fictions is slated for a June 20, 2025, release through XXIM/ Sony.
