The man behind the mic for classic rock staples such as “Beth,” “Black Diamond,” “Hard Luck Woman,” and more is returning to the limelight – founding member of legendary rock band KISS, Peter Criss has announced a brand new solo album.
Criss is of course best known for his time behind the drum kit as a member of KISS, pounding out grooves that would become etched in the DNA of arena rock for tunes like “Detroit Rock City,” “Love Gun,” and KISS’ anthemic calling card, “Rock and Roll All Nite.” The 79-year-old rocker has picked up the sticks once again for a forthcoming album of solo material, the first from the iconic musician in nearly 20 years.
Categorized as a hard rock collection, the new record – announced by Criss on Thursday – will feature production from Barry Pointer, who has gained recognition in the past for his work with heavyweight acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Dolly Parton, Motley Crue, and many others. Guest musicians slated to appear on the album include the likes of bass virtuoso Billy Sheehan, and rock guitar wizard John 5 among others.
”I had an absolute blast doing this rock album. Everyone was so great and so fun to work with,” Criss said of the album. “I look forward to seeing you all soon. God bless you all.”
The announcement indicated that further details regarding the upcoming release could be expected to emerge at a later date.
Criss began is solo career, along with his fellow members of KISS at the time, in 1978 with a self-titled debut as part of a multi-solo album rollout by the band. He would officially depart from KISS in 1980, and would go on to release four additional solo albums. The recently announced release will mark Criss’ first solo record release since 2007’s One for All.
