Indie Rock act out of the United Kingdom, Sports Team is back with a new full-length album in the form of Boys These Days, the third project from the group.

Boys These Days takes on the proud English tradition of peeling back the veil to get a more in-depth glance at the transient and uncertain nature of modern life.

Influences such as Elvis Costello, Prefab Sprout, and Roxy Music can be heard throughout the album, which itself embarks upon stylistic explorations in the realms of throwback pop, unruly indie rock, brit-pop and more.

The band speaks on the album’s title track, which they characterize as, “a song about the weaponisation of nostalgia, sung from the perspective of a self-pitying bigot.”

“‘Boys These Days’ is Supergrass’ Alright if it was written by Ricard Littlejohn,” they say. “There’s this endless generational conflict between baby boomers who see themselves as stoic, hard-working and thrifty, and the feckless young with their creamy coffees and ungodly electronic cigarettes.”

Additional thematic concepts explored through the new release include the endless cycles of “porn, tragedy, war, violence, sex, money, inspirational quotes,” released upon each of us through the dissonant output of our respective social media feeds.

Sports Team will be returning to the United States in the fall, sharing the bill with Brit-pop group Supergrass. The band aims to make the experience an improvement upon their 2024 trek to the States, which saw the band robbed at gunpoint a mere 15 minutes into its headlining tour.

Boys These Days is out now everywhere, and is available for purchase at the Sports Team website.
