Fresh off the impact of “Three Six Five” and the record-breaking rise of “Dance, Kid, Dance,” Shinedown is taking listeners to the “Killing Fields” with a new single.

A tense, heavy, and cryptic offering, the release is indicative of a band with plenty left in the tank as the group continues to fire on all cylinders. Released this week through Atlantic, “Killing Fields” opens in tension before exploding into a chorus powered by the signature larger-than-life vocals of frontman Brent Smith.

Lyrically, “Killing Fields”  tosses out a callback of sorts to Harvey Danger: We’re not sick but we’re not well, we’re just toxic twins on a carousel.” The dramatic imagery is classic Shinedown, conjuring up evocative scenes while leaving the interpretation open to the listener. This approach has allowed fans of the band to construct their own internal lore around the band’s work, making each song a personal and unique statement for every listener.

“The subject matter in this song cannot be prioritized to one specific opinion. The audience is the BOSS… the song is meant to push you, to inspire you to think for yourself, and ask questions,” said Smith of the tune. “The true question is, how will you respond?”

The release comes at a pivotal moment for the group. Shinedown is just days away from launching the second leg of their massive “Dance, Kid, Dance” tour, with alt-rock mainstays Bush and rising Americana performer Morgan Wade joining the full run.

The tour kicks off July 19 at TD Garden in Boston, with a landmark performance at Madison Square Garden following. The performance will mark the band’s first headlining show at the iconic venue.

“Killing Fields” comes as the Third major release of 2025 for the group. Both “Three Six Five” and “Dance, Kid, Dance” dropped earlier this year, rapidly being establcrossover powerhouses. “Three Six Five” is currently charting across five formats.

The new single is now available to stream and purchase on all major platforms.
