Georgia songwriter Jonah Kagen releases debut album, Sunflowers and Leather

Singer and songwriter Jonah Kagen is marking a career milestone with the release of his debut album Sunflowers and Leather through Arista Records.

To call the project a “hands-on” excursion for Kagen may be understating things. The Savannah, Georgia native wrote, produced, and recorded the album himself. What’s more, the album’s creation was undertaken during a trek through some of America’s most notable regions.

Listeners have already chimed in to remark upon the vulnerability and reflective nature of the project. Kagen himself reveals that the record not only serves as a glimpse into his own mind, but as a freeze-frame document of his life during the production process.

“It’s an investigation of all the questions and existential wonders that live with me, and it’s documentation of my search for meaning, purpose, identity, and faith,” he says. “There are connections between all these songs hidden in the lyrics throughout the album. ”

The record is demonstrative of Kagen’s noted guitar playing and honest, personal lyricism.
