After first having debuted on the Grand Ole Opry stage, Shinedown’s newest single “Searchlight” has officially hit airwaves.

The new single was released this week via Atlantic Records and has been described by singer Brent Smith as, “an homage to all the music our parents and grandparents brought us up on. It is a love letter to Americana, Rhythm and Blues, Bluegrass, Outlaw Country, and of course Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Band members have described “Searchlight” about laying claim to who and what one truly is. The tune’s lyrics present a narrative arc of taking ownership of one’s own life and venturing out into the dangerous and wonderful world sans safety net.

Despite Shinedown undeniably taking a number of sonic risks with the track, the band’s signature anthemic fingerprints are all over the track. A brand new music video has also been issued to accompany the single, and offers viewers a glimpse at Shinedown members trying their hand at alternate instruments including pedal steel and banjo.

Aptly, the music video for “Searchlight” was filmed in the Nashville area the day following the single’s live concert debut at the Grand Ole Opry.

”Sometimes when you listen close enough to the universe and you’re willing to receive something from it – a song can come out of thin air,” Smith said of “Searchlight.” “We didn’t find this one, it found us.”

”Searchlight” now available to stream and download on all major platforms.
