London-based singer, songwriter, and musician Maya Delilah released a new single over the weekend, “Maya Maya Maya.”
The tune is the sixth and final single to be released from the artist’s forthcoming album, The Long Way Round, which is expected to see release on March 28, 2025, through Blue Note Records/Capitol Records.
”Maya Maya Maya” is a contemplative, easy-on-the-ears number which reads like an internal dialogue of sorts. One might think of it as a meditative and introspective spin on the musical framework of something like Taylor Swift’s “The Best Day,” albeit with a more internalized focus and additional years of experience behind the lyrics.
“It feels like a song to my younger self,” Delilah herself says of the song. “It’s about not being taken advantage of, not always trying to please people, and making sure I’m living in the right way.”
The tune’s parent album, The Long Way Round revisits themes of reflection a number of times, but is also explicitly exploratory both thematically and stylistically, exhibiting many of the various proclivities characteristic of the eclectic artist.
“This album is a combination of so many parts of me,” Delilah explains. “I get so influenced by different genres, people, places, and experiences that it’s always felt hard for me to fit my music into a consistent sound or mood. It took me a long time (hence The Long Way Round) to realize that it’s a beautiful thing to have a body of work that explores so many different influences.”
“Maya Maya Maya” comes as a decidedly more low-key affair than preceding single “Squeeze,” a bass-heavy funk number which serves as a stylistic contrast to “Maya Maya Maya” and is indicative of Delilah’s broad range of creative influences.
“Maya Maya Maya” is now streaming everywhere, and The Long Way Round is available for pre-order.
